Every detailer in Dallas-Fort Worth will sell you paint protection. The honest question is which kind, and the honest answer depends on where the car sleeps, how long you are keeping it and how much you want to think about it. Here is how the three options compare in a climate that eats clear coat for breakfast, with the actual prices we charge in Frisco and across the Metroplex.
What paint protection is doing
All three products do the same job: they sit on top of the clear coat and take the abuse so the paint does not. UV, heat, bird droppings, tree sap, road grime, hard water spots and the construction dust that blows across Collin County all land on the protection layer instead of the finish. The differences are how hard the layer is, how long it lasts and how much it costs to put on.
Wax
Carnauba or synthetic wax gives the deepest, warmest gloss and is the traditional choice. In North Texas heat it is also the shortest lived. A quality wax applied by machine lasts a few months at best on a car parked outside, and less through a July and August. It is the right choice for a garage-kept weekend car and for anyone who enjoys the ritual. Our Full Detail finishes with a machine-applied wax and sealant combination rated for two to four months.
Spray sealant
Synthetic sealants bond to the paint more tightly than wax and shrug off heat better. They are quick to apply, which is why they suit a maintenance schedule: our Standard Detail finishes with a spray sealant good for roughly two to three months, and repeating it every visit keeps the layer alive. Gloss is slightly cooler and glassier than wax. For most daily drivers in Plano, Frisco and Dallas, a sealant refreshed at each detail is the practical sweet spot.
Ceramic coating
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that cures into a hard, semi-permanent layer bonded to the clear coat. It resists UV, chemicals and light scratching far better than wax or sealant, beads water aggressively so the car stays cleaner between washes, and lasts a year or two in Texas conditions rather than a couple of months.
The catch is preparation. Coating over swirls and contamination locks them in, so a proper ceramic job starts with a wash, chemical decontamination, clay bar and a machine polish before the coating goes on. That is why it costs what it costs. Our ceramic coating starts at $600 and is priced on vehicle size and paint condition, and the Gloss Enhancement Polish that precedes it is $350 and up for sedans and $450 and up for trucks and SUVs.

Side by side in Texas heat
Durability outside: wax a few months, sealant two to three months, ceramic a year or more.
Gloss: wax warmest, sealant glassy, ceramic sharp and slick.
Ease of washing afterward: ceramic wins by a distance. Dirt and water release from a coated surface, which matters when your car collects a week of Metroplex dust.
Cost: wax and sealant are included in our detail packages; ceramic is a separate service with its own prep.
Best for: wax, garaged and collector cars; sealant, daily drivers on a monthly or bi-monthly detail; ceramic, cars kept outside, new vehicles you plan to keep, dark colors that show swirls, and anyone who wants to wash less and protect more.
New car or fresh paint after hail
Two situations make ceramic an easy call in DFW. A new vehicle, because the paint has never been better than it is today and a coating preserves that. And a car freshly repainted after a hail claim, which is common here every spring; new paint sitting in the sun without protection is the fastest way to undo the body shop's work. Wait for the paint to fully cure per the shop's guidance, then coat it.
Maintenance still matters
No protection is a reason to stop washing. Bird droppings and bug residue should come off within days in summer regardless of what is on the paint, and a coated car still benefits from a proper wash and a topper every couple of months. The difference is how easy that maintenance becomes.
